How to choose a registered massage therapist?
Published on Apr 30, 2021

Finding a reputable massage therapist is like finding an auto mechanic you can trust. Once you find them you’ll be “married” to them for life.

A massage therapist’s livelihood thrives on word of mouth advertising.  Ask your family, friends, and coworkers if they can refer a therapist.  Another way to find a massage therapist is through professional referrals, ask a medical professional you already have contact with: your doctor, physiotherapist, chiropractor etc.   If it’s hard to get an appointment this is a good indicator that the massage therapist is a trustworthy practitioner.  Good therapists have busy schedules; many will refer new clients to other massage therapists if they can’t accommodate you.

So now you’ve narrowed your search for a massage therapist to a couple of candidates, what should you do next?  Research them online, and set up an appointment, to see if the clinic is clean and welcoming.  Talk to the therapist and make sure they’re interested and knowledgeable to your specific needs.   Everyone seeks treatment for various reasons; for example, a back injury, pregnancy issues, or surgery recovery all need to be approached differently.

Once you’ve found a therapist they’ll create a treatment program specifically for you; this will continue to evolve along with your progress.   So now you’re “married” to your therapist for life!
